Today January 28th Emotional Respectful Men was presented to the Equal Opportunities Commission and the Educational and School Policies Commission of the XI Municipality of the metropolitan city of Rome. Municipality XI operates mainly in the south-west periphery of the city, dominated by the brutalist building of Corviale; a challenging area, but also one very receptive to social and educational projects and initiatives like ERM.
The two Commissions, guided by Dr Maria Pina Egidi and Dr Daniela Marianello, listened with interest to the presentation of the project given by Skill Up. Together, we explored how to adapt the project to the school landscape of the Municipality and how to customise the materials to fit a wider range of users and learners. The Commissions commended the project and its methodology for the ability to relate to young adults’ daily experiences, for the strong academic background that guided the development of the Modules, and for the fresh and innovative perspective taken. In a moment where the Italian government is refusing to directly address the root causes of violence against women and to implement official curricula of emotional education in schools, projects like Emotional Respectful Men become the frontline of emotional literacy training, for both trainers and learners.
The Municipality showed remarkable interest in incorporating the project into its educational offer. ERM journey is far from being at the end!
